Galway City Sailing Club is pleased to announce the launch of its Junior Sailing Programme for 2026, offering a range of opportunities for young sailors to develop skills, confidence and a lifelong love of sailing.
The 2026 programme will include a Schools Team Racing Programme, the Connacht & Ulster Secondary Schools Team Racing Championship, and the club’s popular Sunday Junior Sailing Academy.
The Schools Team Racing Programme will take place in Spring 2026 and will be hosted at Galway City Sailing Club. Coaching sessions are scheduled for Saturday 21 February and Saturday 7 March, providing secondary school teams with structured training in team racing tactics and boat handling in a supportive and competitive environment.
Building on this, Galway City Sailing Club will host the Connacht & Ulster Secondary Schools Team Racing Championship on Saturday 14 March 2026. The event is expected to attract teams from across the region and will showcase the growing strength of youth sailing in the west and north-west of Ireland.
The club will also run its Sunday Junior Sailing Academy, starting on Sunday 1 March 2026 and running for six consecutive Sundays. The academy is open to junior sailors of all abilities aged 8 to 18 and is ideal for those who have completed an introductory sailing course. Sessions will take place every Sunday morning from 10.00am to 1.00pm.
The Sunday Academy offers a fun, active sailing experience where young sailors can build confidence, improve their skills and enjoy time on the water with friends. Participants will be grouped according to experience and will sail either their own boats or club RS Fevas. Junior membership at Galway City Sailing Club is very reasonably priced, helping to keep the programme accessible to families.
