RIB Challenge Success!!

Congratulations to both our teams, their captains on the day, and of course Ciaran Oliver their trainer, who successfully competed in the National Finals of the Yachtsman Euromarine RIB Challenge in Dun Laoghaire last Saturday. The teams were Fionn Delahunty, Ciaran Jordan and Eamonn Murphy with their captain Erin Killeen who came first, and Eoin O’Toole, Daragh O’Toole and Conor Greaney with captain Bartley Carrick who came a very creditable fourth beating teams from all parts of Ireland. All their hard work training with Ciaran paid off, and to do so well at their first attempt at the competition was really remarkable. The rain may have poured down on them all day but they kept hard at it for three hours taking nine tests in boat handling, mooring, towing and MOB, engines, chart work and tides, safety, knots and rope throwing, and it was a very happy contingent from Galway who drove West with a new rib, engine and trailer in tow that night.

Thanks to everybody involved – both teams and Ciaran of course, but also the parents who got them to the many training sessions and then to Clifden  and Dun Laoghaire, and thanks to the families and supporters who travelled to cheer them on. To have a RIB for a club safety boat after only 5 months in existence is a tremendous boon for the club and will help us to develop more quickly than would otherwise have been possible.

We will celebrate with a photoshoot and a BBQ on Thursday next Nov 3rd from 4pm at our usual base at the Ocean Sports Club building. Teams and families and known supporters catered for, others, if you would like to join us, please email roenancy9@gmail.com to let us know so that we can get enough sausages!

More news of winter activities later,
