Annual Regatta & BBQ Featuring ‘Round The Buoys’ & ‘The Rabbit Run’ Round The Islands Sailing Races

Mark your calendars. The highlight of our sailing year is back. On Saturday 20 September, Galway City Sailing Club will be hosting our Annual Regatta & Picnic, open to all members, families whose young sailors took part in our 2025 junior sailing courses, our summer sailing instructors & our friends at local clubs.
Two Courses – Double The Fun
Two sailing adventures will run side by side, so you can pick your challenge:
- Round the Buoys — Juniors and adults racing together (PY). Four short, tactical races.
- Round the Islands ‘The Rabbit Run‘ — Pursuit race for adults and confident juniors who fancy a longer spin around the islands.
Schedule
- 12:00–13:00 — Check-in
- 13:00 — Competitors’ briefing at the clubhouse in the dinghy yard
- 13:30 — Earliest warning flag for the first Round the Buoys race (four races scheduled)
- 14:00 — Earliest warning flag for the Pursuit Race
- 16:00 (approx) — Picnic at the clubhouse
Prizes & Glory
- 1st and 2nd in Round the Buoys
- Round The Islands Pursuit Race: The first club member to finish will hold our prestigious Perpetual Trophy for 2025.
The Perpetual Trophy, handcrafted by a talented stonemason and valued club member, was generously presented to the club and gratefully received.
Entry fees
- €20 per sailor-owned boat
- €25 for a club-owned boat
Fees cover safety boat fuel and beef or veggie burgers for sailors and family.
What to bring
- Your own table settings and cups
- Picnic sides and drinks to go with the burgers
- A sense of adventure is optional… but highly recommended.

Please note:

- Regatta subject to suitable weather conditions. Fallback date Sunday 21 September.
- Participants agree to follow NOR instructions, Galway City Sailing Club Rules, Terms & Policies and any directions issued by Galway City Sailing Club.
- Club boats are available on a first come first served basis and are subject to availability.
