The Rabbit Run – Annual Regatta 2026

Our annual Round the Islands – “The Rabbit Run” pursuit race brought sailors together on Saturday, 3 October, for an adventurous trip around Hare and Rabbit Islands.

With a fleet ranging from Picos and Toppers to Lasers, 420s, Stratos, Argo, Sport 14s and a host of Darts and Topaz dinghies, it was a great opportunity for adult sailors and confident juniors to enjoy a longer course on Galway Bay.

The race also put the Perpetual Trophy up for grabs, awarded to the first club member home. This beautiful handcrafted piece, generously donated to the club by a talented stonemason and valued club member, is a special prize to win.

A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the event run smoothly, with special thanks to Maurice, Samuel and the Scouts for providing safety boat cover.

One lesson for next year: choosing a date with a rising tide should make setting the course marks much easier, allowing the spits around the islands to be seen more clearly.
