Proudly Supporting Cong to Galway Sailing Race, Saturday 27 June 2026
Cong Galway 2026 – Join Europe’s Oldest Inland Sailing Race
Galway City Sailing Club is proud to once again take part in the Cong–Galway Sailing Race – the oldest and longest inland sailing race in Europe, now celebrating its 143rd edition.
Date: Saturday, 27 June 2026
If the race cannot be sailed on Saturday 27th, then Sunday 28th June will be the first backup date.
This historic race is a collaboration between Corrib Rowing and Yachting Club, Galway Bay Sailing Club, Galway Hooker Sailing Club, Spiddal Sailing Club and Galway City Sailing Club.
About the Race
The race begins at Lisloughrey Pier in Cong, Co. Mayo and travels through Upper and Lower Lough Corrib, finishing between Menlo Castle and Corrib Village Pontoon on the River Corrib.
There will be a stop for lunch at Kilbeg Pier, before competitors set off for the second leg. As part of the final challenge, dinghy sailors will capsize to pass under the Quincentennial Bridge, while the traditional Galway Hookers will lower their masts.
Prize-Giving and Spectator Info
The day concludes with food, refreshments and prize-giving at Corrib Rowing and Yachting Club. Supporters are encouraged to cheer on the sailors at Dangan or Quincentennial Bridge from around 4.00 pm.
Special thanks go to The Lodge at Ashford Castle for their continued support of this wonderful event.
