Cong Galway 2024
Galway City Sailing Club Joins Europe’s Oldest Inland Sailing Race
Galway City Sailing Club is proud to announce its participation in this year’s Cong to Galway Sailing Race, the oldest and longest inland water sailing race in Europe. The event is set for Saturday, 31 August 2024.
The race, a collaboration between Corrib Rowing and Yachting Club, Galway Bay Sailing Club, Galway Hooker Sailing Club, Spiddal Sailing Club and Galway City Sailing Club, kicks off at Lisloughrey Pier in Cong, Co. Mayo, and navigates through Upper and Lower Lough Corrib, finishing at Dangan/Menlo Castle on the River Corrib.
Participants will stop for lunch at Kilbeg Pier before continuing towards the finish line. The final challenge involves capsizing boats at Quincentennial Bridge, while the traditional Hookers will drop their masts.
Prizes will be awarded at Corrib Rowing and Yachting Club, with supporters encouraged to cheer on sailors at Dangan and Quincentennial Bridge from 4 PM.
We look forward to another year of high participation by Galway City Sailing Club members
