Club Chairperson Speaks To The Galway Independent
Nancy Roe was last month appointed chairperson of a voluntary group of dinghy, windsurfing and kite surfing enthusiasts operating from the new Galway Ocean Sports Centre in the Galway Harbour Enterprise Park. The proposal to establish a Galway City club focusing on dinghy sailing was first mooted in 2001, and Nancy says that the Galway Harbour Board and Harbour Master Captain Brian Sheridan have been very supportive of the idea over the years, along with Galway Bay Sailing Club and other local clubs.
And she says that the wider public began to fully realise the potential for sailing in Galway City following the success of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in 2009.
